The earth's equator and namesake land of Ecuador is one of the best places to enjoy fresh, succulent fruits, and a wide variety of them at that. From blackberries to oranges to more foreign delicacies such as prickly pear (a cactus fruit) and soursop, what you can find in a vibrant Ecuadorian market runs the gamut of options.

In fact, Ecuadorians are so proud of their dynamic produce that one of their staples is going to be the next star of the country's marketing efforts.

In 2013, the Ministry of Tourism in Ecuador hopes to spread word about one of its country's top exports comprising about 29% of the world's total stock at a store near you! Coming soon, keep an eye on your local bananas, which will feature Ecuador's colorful tourism logo as well as a scannable, black and white QR code which you may scan with a smartphone for more information about all that the country has to offer (aside from delicious bananas).

So when you're in Ecuador enjoying the landscapes of the Galapagos Islands or perhaps out exploring the Amazon Basin, remember to take frequent rests because there's always time for a short but delicious fruit (and banana) break!
