Rio de Janeiro is now a UNESCO World Heritage site

The eyes of the world are pointing at Rio de Janeiro since the announcement that this spectacular Brazilian city will be the home for the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics Games on 2016.

But now there's a new reason to celebrate since UNESCO has decidde to acknowledge the many wonders of the city by including its prestigious list of the World Heritage List.

This site consists of an exceptional urban setting rather than built heritage. Rio has the key natural elements that have shaped and inspired the development of the city: from the highest points of the Tijuca National Park's mountains down to the sea. They also include the Botanical Gardens, established in 1808, Corcovado Mountain with its celebrated statue of Christ and the hills around Guanabara Bay, including the extensive designed landscapes along Copacabana Bay which have contributed to the outdoor living culture of this spectacular city.

Often know as Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvellous City), Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the world thanks to the unique combination of the stunning Lagoon, the breathtaking views of the granite peaks, the impressive variety of wildlife of its rainforests and of course the spectacular beaches.

Rio de Janeiro is also recognized for the artistic inspiration it has provided to musicians, landscapers and urbanistsa with such important events coming up, Rio seems to be growing and developing everyday. Plans are underway to clean up some the city most polluted beaches and to improve the public transportation for the millions of visitors expected in the years to come.

Thanks to its outdoor lifestyle Rio de Janeiro has a unique energy and it seems impossible not to fall in love with the sounds, the flavors and sights of this place.
