Magic of Chile

Day 1: Santiago de Chile
Arrival at Santiago Airport and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour to see the most interesting attractions of the Chilean capital. Overnight Santiago.

Day 2: San Pedro de Atacama & Valle de la Luna
Morning flight to northern Chile and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis village in the Atacama Desert. In the afternoon visit the the eerily silent moonscape of the Valle de la Luna with its backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes, where the beauty of the scenery intensifies during sunset. Overnight San Pedro de Atacama.

Day 3: San Pedro, historical sites & the Atacama Salt Lake
After breakfast visit the centre of a Palaeolithic civilization that built impressive rock fortresses on the mountains encircling valley. Visit the colonial church and the archaeological museum, with several mummies. After this visit drive 4km/2.5mi to the pre-Columbian village of Tulor. The archaeological remains are the oldest evidence of human settlement in the valley. Continue to Pukara de Quitor, an Incan fortress. In the afternoon visit Toconao, a village where the locals dedicate themselves to carving white volcanic stone sculptures. Finally, end up at the huge Atacama Salt Lake, an inland sea formed millions of years ago. Overnight San Pedro de Atacama.

Day 4: El Tatio & Machuca
Depart at 4:00a.m. to see the El Tatio Geysers, a geothermal field flanked by soaring peaks. The steaming ponds are encrusted with brilliant salt crystals that reflect the metalblue sky at dawn; along with the rising columns of steam they make for a breathtaking sight. On the way back from the geysers visit Machuca, a settlement 3,400m/11,150ft above sea level. Only a few shepherds still live in this former rest place for the ancient llama caravans that traveled the Inca Trail. Overnight San Pedro de Atacama.

Day 5: Puerto Montt & Puerto Varas
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the south - Puerto Montt. Have a city tour of Puerto Montt and then transfer to Puerto Varas, also known as the "City of Roses," on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. Overnight Puerto Varas.

Day 6: Peulla
In the morning drive along the shoreline of Lake Llanquihue to Petrohué in the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. Make an optional short stop at the famous Petrohué Falls. In Petrohué board a catamaran to sail across Lake Todos los Santos to Peulla, enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding mountains on the way. Have time for lunch at Hotel Peulla and/or a walk to the nearby waterfalls. Overnight Puerto Varas.

Day 7: Chiloé Island
Cross the Chacao Channel by ferry to Chiloé Island. Visit either Ancud, famous for its traditional market featuring a wide range of seafood and crafts, or the famous houses built on stilts in Castro. If weather conditions allow, visit the penguin islands, or "Islotes Puñihul," situated on the north-western coast, about 30 minutes from Ancud. During the zodiac ride to the islands you'll see Humboldt and Magellan penguins. Overnight Puerto Varas.

Day 8: Puerto Varas
Board the train to Frutillar Alto, enjoying a scenic 45-minute ride. After your arrival in Frutillar Alto you'll drive to the lower part of the town - Frutillar Bajo, situated on the shoreline of Lake Llanquihue and founded by German settlers around 1850. Here visit the outdoor museum dedicated to these pioneers. Afternoon at leisure in Puerto Varas. Overnight Puerto Varas.

Day 9: Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales
In the morning, transfer to the airport in Puerto Montt for flight to Punta Arenas where you'll have a city tour. Continue to the penguin colony at Otway Sound, depending on the season. In the afternoon visit an authentic Patagonian sheep farm. Overnight at farm.

Day 10: Torres del Paine National Park
Early departure to Torres del Paine National Park. On the way visit the Milodón Cave, where archaeologists found the 12,000 year old remains of a giant sloth. In Torres del Paine pass Laguna Amarga and Lake Pehoé and enjoy the beautiful views of the Paine Massif, Almirante Nieto, and the famous Torres (towers) del Paine. See local wildlife like guanacos, ñandus, foxes, skunks, black-necked swans, flamingos, condors and eagles. Overnight in the park.

Day 11: Puerto Natales
The morning will be at leisure, with time for a stroll in the hotel surroundings. In the afternoon leave the park and drive to Puerto Natales. Overnight Puerto Natales.

Day 12: Santiago
Transfer to the Punta Arenas airport for your flight to Santiago. Overnight Santiago.

Day 13: Santiago / Home
Transfer to the airport for your international flight home.
