Family Fun at Machu Picchu

This new 10-day Peru travel itinerary is ideal for families with kids of all ages, with a mixture of more active adventures and visits to area highlights to keep everyone entertained. From horseback riding to river rafting, weaving lessons and hiking part of the Inca Trail, it’s an exciting vacation adventure itinerary that won’t leave any time for boredom.

Begin your vacation in Lima, Peru’s capital and a coastal city with a great deal of history. You’ll stay in the Miraflores neighborhood, home to dining and shopping options, and have the chance to visit the historic colonial center of town, and the amazing Museo Larco – visitors have access to the enormous pottery archive, a very unusual experience.

Then, continue to Cusco, where you’ll stay several nights in the Sacred Valley. At a lower altitude than Cusco, the Sacred Valley is filled with ruins, villages and colorful markets, as well as the chance for activities like horseback riding on Peruvian Paso horses, learning traditional weaving techniques, river rafting and mountain biking.

After a few days in the Sacred Valley, take the panoramic Vistadome train to Machu Picchu, disembarking early for the one day Inca Trail hike. Explore the Machu Picchu citadel, and stay overnight at Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, which has nature walks in the cloud forest and to a spectacle bear reserve.

End the trip in Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, where you’ll have a chance to explore the famed Temple of the Sun and enormous ruins outside the city.

This is an ideal trip to combine with a cruise in the Galapagos Islands, or time in the Amazon. Ask us for more details!
